Adobe Firefly is Adobe's generative AI toolset, integrated within Photoshop, Illustrator, and Express. Generative Fill, Text to Image, and Text Effects enable designers to work much more efficiently.
Open the Original Image in Photoshop
Import the image that needs editing into Photoshop that has Firefly integrated.
Open Photoshop, go to File > Open, select the product or event image to process.
Use the original image with the highest resolution to allow Firefly to create better quality expanded details.
Expand the Image Frame with Generative Expand
Stretch the canvas to a new aspect ratio and let Firefly fill in the extended area.
Select the Crop tool, stretch the canvas frame outside the original image, then click the "Generative Expand" button that appears.
Try multiple times if the first extension is not natural; Firefly generates several variations with each click.
Remove Unwanted Objects with Generative Fill
Select the area to be removed and let the AI fill in the background naturally.
Use the Lasso tool to draw around the unwanted object, click "Generative Fill", leave the description box empty, and click Generate.
If the result is not satisfactory, add more description in the prompt box like "smooth wooden background" to guide the AI in filling it in correctly.
Match Colors with Brand Identity
Adjust the image colors to match the saved brand color palette in Creative Cloud Libraries.
Open Creative Cloud Libraries, drag the brand color palette into Photoshop, use an Adjustment Layer to fine-tune the image colors.
Save the color adjustment preset used for quick application to subsequent images in the same campaign.
Export Images in Multiple Formats
Export the completed images in the necessary sizes for each upload channel.
Go to File > Export > Export As, choose JPG or PNG format, and export separately for each required aspect ratio.
Name the files according to a clear rule like "product_square_1080.jpg" so the team can easily find the correct file for posting.

Pros
Cons
A furniture company needs the same product image but in various aspect ratios for Facebook, Instagram Story, and website banners.
Problem
Retaking or recreating layouts for each aspect ratio takes many hours of manual editing in Photoshop every time a new collection is launched.
Solution
Use Generative Expand in Adobe Firefly to extend the original image background into multiple aspect ratios while maintaining the integrity of the main product.
An event company needs to clean up event photos that have many unwanted background objects before posting them on the website and social media.
Problem
Manually editing each photo to remove power cords and unnecessary items in the background takes 10-15 minutes per photo, with hundreds of photos after each event.
Solution
Use Generative Fill in Adobe Firefly (through Photoshop) to quickly remove unwanted objects and naturally fill in the background.
